The Springs Valley softball team challenged itself on Wednesday night, hosting Class 3A No. 6 Pike Central. The Blackhawks battled with the Chargers, but couldn’t come away with the victory as they fell 4-0. Pike Central took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and went from there. The Chargers had three more one-run innings and Springs Valley’s ability to hold them to just one run kept it in the game. Lily Hickman did the pitching for the ‘Hawks, going all seven innings. Of the four runs she allowed only two were earned. They came on six hits and five walks. She struck out eight batters. The sophomore also had one of Springs Valley’s four hits as she went 1-3 at the dish. Brynne Buchanan, Tynley Kluesner, and Bostyn Rowlett also went 1-3. Outside of that the Blackhawks struggled to get on base, striking out nine times and drawing no walks. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Springs Valley (9-7, 5-1 PLAC). The Blackhawks will try to start a new streak on Thursday when they travel to Borden. CHARGERS 4, BLACKHAWKS 0 Pike Central (18-3);101;110;0—4;6;0 Springs Valley (9-7);000;000;0—0;4;2 W: Williams.
