Offense was at a premium as the Springs Valley softball team battled Borden on Thursday. The teams combined for six hits — three for the Blackhawks and three for the Braves — but unfortunately for Springs Valley the game’s two runs were split. Borden scored them both, beating the Blackhawks 2-0. Maci Eckerty got the start in the circle for Springs Valley and though she took the loss, she was superb in her first varsity start. She pitched all six innings for the ‘Hawks, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks. Springs Valley’s three hits came from Brynne Buchanan, Emri Allen, and Tynley Kluesner, the top three hitters in its lineup. The Blackhawks had two other base runners in game: Karson Dalton drew a walk and Marissa Marshall was hit with a pitch. Springs Valley (9-8, 5-1 PLAC) will try to bounce back from its second consecutive loss on Monday when it hosts Corydon Central, a Class 3A foe.
