The Springs Valley baseball team put its foot down early on Thursday as it hosted Cannelton. The Blackhawks scored 13 runs in the first inning, then cruised to an 18-0 win over the Bulldogs in five innings. Springs Valley celebrated its lone senior, Henry Cruz, prior to the matchup and Cruz put together a solid performance on his senior night. The shortstop went 2-3 with two walks and a stolen base, also scoring a pair of runs. Konner Chase also had a big night, going 2-2 with two doubles and five runs batted in before exiting the game. Mavrick Land and Braylon Kovas also posted two hits apiece. Kaden Dunn hit a three-run double and drew a walk in his two plate appearances and the freshman duo of Blake Buchanan and Landon Farris drove in two runs each. Hunter Thomas, Jonas Hammond, and Noah Allstott also had one hit each. Allstott had an RBI as well. Manny Pantoja, Landon Weeks, Keyton Jones, and Tanner Phillips all reached on a walk. Kaden Lee was hit by a pitch. Land pitched the game’s first three innings, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Phillips took the mound for the final two frames, walking three batters but allowing no hits and striking out five. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Springs Valley (7-14, 2-4 PLAC).
