The Springs Valley baseball team closed its regular season on a high note on Monday, beating Rock Creek Academy 18-0. The Blackhawks scored five runs in the first inning and from there it was on as they scored nine more in the second, four in the third, and wrapped up the game in five innings. Springs Valley got strong pitching from the trio of Kaden Dunn, Braylon Kovas, and Landon Weeks that ultimately resulted in the Blackhawks’ second no-hitter of the season. Dunn started and got the win, pitching the first three innings. He impressively got eight of his nine outs via strikeout and allowed the only three base runners of the game for Rock Creek, two via walk and another via hit by pitch. Kovas took over to start the fourth and was also strong, going 1.1 innings and striking out a pair. Weeks got the ball for the final two outs and struck a batter out in closing the game. The Blackhawks had a whopping 16 hits in the game, led by a strong game from Jonas Hammond. The junior crushed a two-run home run to center field to open the scoring in the first and kept it rolling over the course of the game, finishing 2-2 with a double to go along with the homer and three runs batted in. Noah Allstott also had a big game, going 3-3 with three runs batted in and a walk. Konner Chase went 2-2 with three runs batted in and a double. Dunn went 3-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Valley also got two hits and an RBI from Braylon Kovas, three hits and a stolen base from Henry Cruz, and an RBI single from Landon Farris. Manny Pantoja and Mavrick Land got on via hit by pitch. Keyton Jones, Blake Buchanan, and Tanner Phillips each drew a walk. Buchanan had a pair of stolen bases and drove in a run. Cole Kovas wasn’t able to get a hit, but did drive in a run. Springs Valley (9-16, 2-4 PLAC) will now enter the State Tournament. The Blackhawks will open sectional play on Wednesday, traveling to Tecumseh to take on Wood Memorial.
