Springs Valley baseball advances to sectional semifinal with rout of Wood Memorial

The Springs Valley baseball team kept its season going on Wednesday, blowing out Wood Memorial 12-0 in its opening game at the Tecumseh Sectional. The Blackhawks started slow offensively, but took the lead with three runs in the second inning, then continued tacking on runs in each successive inning until they ended the game via mercy rule in the sixth. Springs Valley was led by a quartet of multi-hit performances. Jonas Hammond went 2-4 with a pair of runs batted in, Konner Chase with 2-3 with a triple, a walk, and two stolen bases, Keyton Jones went 2-2 with two runs batted in, two walks, and three stolen bases, and Blake Buchanan went 3-3 with two runs batted in and two stolen bases. Cole Kovas also played a crucial role from the designated hitter spot, going 1-3 with a team-high three RBI as well as two stolen bases. Mavrick Land pitched a complete game for Springs Valley and got the win, allowing only one earned run on six hits and three walks. He struck out four batters. Springs Valley (10-16, 2-4 PLAC) will continue its run in the sectional semifinal round on Monday morning, returning to Tecumseh to take on Evansville Christian.
